The Firm's Family Law Practice

Attorney Tom Payne represents individuals at all stages of a divorce or family law matter, from the initial filing through post-judgment motions for modification or enforcement of existing orders. He handles all matters related to or arising out of divorce, including:

  • child custody. The firm will help you put in place custody and visitation arrangements that are in the best interest of your children. Attorney Tom Payne has seen the broad range of situations that can arise when there are children involved in a divorce and knows how to keep everyone focused on the best interests of the children.
  • child support. Attorney Tom Payne will review all proposed child support orders for compliance with Mississippi guidelines and to ensure that all appropriate income is included in the calculation.
  • spousal support or alimony. The firm will help you determine whether alimony is necessary and, if so, the amount and length of payments.
  • property division. Attorney Tom Payne will help you equitably divide the debts and assets of your marriage, including real and personal property, investments and bank accounts, retirement funds and business property.
  • paternity actions. Attorney Tom Payne will represent either side in a paternity dispute, and will handle any support or visitation issues that arise because of the determination.

Many of the divorce cases attorney Tom Payne handles are based on "irreconcilable differences." In these situations, which are less expensive and less stressful than traditional divorce proceedings, the process can often be completed in 60 days.

Though attorney Tom Payne encourages clients to find ways to resolve divorce issues without going to court, he has extensive trial experience and will aggressively protect your interests in divorce litigation, if necessary.

The firm also handles non-divorce-related family law matters, including adoption proceedings, name change requests and prenuptial agreements.
